Not every choice is ours to make.
We don’t choose the weather.
We don’t choose the market.
We don’t choose when equipment breaks, plans change, or life decides to throw a wrench into the machinery.
Sometimes the sea has its own ideas.
But there is one choice that remains.
How we respond.
Today didn’t unfold exactly as I had planned.
The big boat stayed put.
The engine still needs attention.
Yet the water was clear.
The sun was warm.
And a simple ride in the dinghy reminded me that a good day doesn’t require perfect circumstances.
It only requires that we notice what remains available to us.
Much of life is spent waiting for conditions to improve before we allow ourselves to be content.
But contentment is often a choice made long before circumstances cooperate.
The sea has taught me many things.
One of them is this:
A wise sailor works with the conditions he has, not the conditions he wishes for.
Fair winds, my friends.
