THOREAU — THE LIFE WE CHOOSE
Henry David Thoreau went to the woods because he wanted to live deliberately.
Not to escape life, but to stop wasting it.
He wondered how much of what we call necessity is merely habit.
How much of what we call success was chosen for us by someone else.
How much of our day is spent maintaining things we never really needed in the first place.
So he simplified; he paid attention.
And he asked a question that remains uncomfortable nearly two centuries later:
Are we living the life we chose… or simply the life we fell into?
Perhaps that is where we begin this week.
Not by selling everything and moving to a cabin beside Walden Pond.
But by looking carefully at what fills our days.
What matters?
What merely makes noise?
What would remain if we stripped away the expectations, possessions, obligations, and habits we accumulated without ever consciously choosing them?
Thoreau believed a human being could discover something important by living deliberately.
Maybe we can too.
This week, we are going to spend a little time with Henry David Thoreau.
Not because we want to retreat from the world.
Because we would like to become a little more intentional about how we live in it.
Fair winds, my friends.
