I think sometimes we confuse being present with being still. Sit quietly. Breathe. Clear the mind. And yes, there’s something wonderful there. But most of life isn’t lived sitting quietly. Sometimes life is noisy. Sometimes there are three things happening at once. Sometimes something breaks. Sometimes the phone rings while dinner is burning and somebody needs an answer right now. 😂 Presence doesn’t require the world to stop moving. It only asks that we stop wishing we were somewhere else while it moves. A sailor learns this pretty quickly. There are moments when the wind comes up and everything aboard suddenly demands attention. You don’t have time to think about yesterday. You’re certainly not wondering what you’ll be doing next Thursday. There is only the line in your hand. The sail above you. The wind. The next thing that needs doing. Oddly enough, those can be some of the most peaceful moments there are. Not because nothing is happening. Because nothing else is happening. For a little while, the mind and the moment occupy the same place. Maybe that’s what being present really is. Not escaping the motion. Not quieting the world. Just being completely where your hands already are. Good morning, friends. #Now, #BeHereNow, #Presence, #RamDass, #Mindfulness, #LifeWellLived, #SailingLife, #MorningThoughts, #CrypTok
