WATER RETURNS
Good morning.
Rain falls.
Runs downhill.
Finds a stream.
Joins a river.
Reaches the sea.
Then, eventually, rises again.
Water is always leaving.
And always returning.
I’ve been thinking about that as we come to the end of this week.
We like clean endings.
A finished job.
A solved problem.
A chapter closed.
But life rarely works that neatly.
Lessons come back.
Questions come back.
People come back.
Old fears sometimes come back too.
Not because we failed to deal with them the first time.
Sometimes because we’re meeting them as a different person.
Water doesn’t seem bothered by repeating the journey.
Ocean.
Cloud.
Rain.
River.
Sea.
Again.
Maybe there’s some comfort in that.
We don’t have to get everything right the first time.
We don’t have to learn a lesson only once.
We don’t have to be embarrassed when life circles back and asks us the same question in a new way.
The water returns.
So do we.
Hopefully a little wiser.
Good morning from the boat.
