Good morning. Not everything that remains is something we’d have chosen to keep. Some lessons cost us. A failure. A loss. A bad decision we couldn’t undo. A time when life didn’t turn out remotely the way we’d planned. While we’re going through those things, we’d give just about anything to make them disappear. But years later, something interesting happens. The pain usually isn’t as sharp. The disappointment loses some of its weight. The details begin to fade. But we’re different. Maybe a little more patient. A little less certain that we know everything. Better at recognizing trouble before it arrives. More willing to forgive somebody else’s mistake because we remember our own. More grateful when the seas are calm because we’ve spent enough time in rough water. I wouldn’t pretend every hard experience happens for a reason. Sometimes bad things simply happen. But we still get to decide what we carry forward from them. The wound can heal. The scar can remain. And sometimes the scar isn’t there to remind us how badly we were hurt. It’s there to remind us that we healed. Maybe that’s part of what remains, too. Not what happened to us. Who we became afterward. Good morning, my friends. Let’s see what Wednesday brings.
