Good Monday morning, my friends.
This morning, I was managing the boat into Shelter Bay, Panama.
There were plenty of things demanding attention, but they could not all be handled at once. The boat did not need me worrying about the entire arrival. It needed me paying attention to what came next.
Then the next thing.
Then the one after that.
Life often works the same way.
When the problem is large, the future uncertain, or the list longer than the day, we tend to stand back and stare at the whole damn thing. We try to solve tomorrow, next month, and the rest of our lives before breakfast.
No wonder we feel overwhelmed.
“Do the next right thing” does not promise that the entire path will suddenly become clear. It does not require a perfect plan or certainty about how everything will turn out.
It simply asks:
What does this moment require of me?
Make the call.
Tell the truth.
Keep the promise.
Ask for help.
Take the first step.
Sometimes the next right thing is difficult. Sometimes it is ordinary. Often it is so small that we dismiss it while waiting for some grand answer to appear.
But most worthwhile lives are not built through one great decision. They are built through thousands of smaller ones, made honestly and followed through.
You do not have to solve the entire journey this morning.
Just do the next right thing.
Then see where you are.
