Good evening, my friends. “Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.” I heard some version of that throughout much of my military life. It certainly mattered in EOD, where rushing could turn a difficult problem into a dangerous one. It applies just as well aboard a boat. An approach to a marina is not improved by frantic movement. Lines get tangled. Instructions become unclear. People begin reacting instead of thinking. The best arrivals often look almost uneventful. Everyone knows the plan. Each movement is deliberate. One thing happens, then the next. What appears slow from the outside is actually steady, practiced, and efficient. That is the lesson hidden inside the phrase. Slow does not mean lazy. It does not mean timid or indecisive. It means moving at a pace that allows attention to remain ahead of action. When we rush, we often create work for ourselves. We overlook details, make careless mistakes, and spend twice as long repairing what impatience damaged. Smooth comes from preparation. Smooth comes from repetition. Smooth comes from remaining calm enough to do something correctly the first time. And once an action becomes smooth, speed tends to arrive on its own. There will always be moments when life demands quick decisions. But quick is not the same as hurried. The calmest person in the room is often the one moving with the greatest efficiency. So when tomorrow comes at you faster than expected, resist the temptation to become frantic. Take a breath. See what is in front of you. Move deliberately. Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast. Rest well, my friends. — Captain Michael #WordsToLiveBy, #SlowIsSmooth, #IntentionalLiving, #LifeLessons, #StayCalm, #CaptainMichael
