Good Thursday morning.
“This too shall pass” is usually offered as comfort when life becomes difficult.
The storm will move on.
The pain will ease.
The loss will become something you learn to carry.
The hard season will eventually give way to another.
And most of the time, that is true. Nothing in life holds its present shape forever.
But we tend to forget that the phrase applies equally to the moments we wish would remain.
The quiet morning.
The healthy body.
The full table.
The familiar voice on the other end of the phone.
The children still small enough to reach for your hand.
The boat resting peacefully before the wind changes.
These things pass too.
That is not a reason for sadness. It is a reason to notice them.
Impermanence is what makes the difficult days survivable—and the beautiful days precious.
When life is hard, do not mistake this chapter for the whole story. Keep moving. Let time do some of the work you cannot yet do for yourself.
When life is good, do not hurry through it while chasing whatever comes next. Put down the phone. Look around. Listen closely. Be where your feet are.
We spend a great deal of our lives waiting for one thing to pass so something else can begin.
Meanwhile, life is passing with it.
Whatever this morning has brought you, meet it fully.
If it hurts, hold on.
If it is beautiful, pay attention.
This too shall pass.
