Good morning.
Yesterday, Mary Beth poked her head out and offered one of those simple sentences that stops you cold:
“Just because it didn’t go right doesn’t mean it didn’t go well.”
We make plans because plans give us direction. We set a course, choose a destination, and imagine how the passage ought to unfold.
Then the wind shifts.
Something breaks. Someone arrives unexpectedly. A door closes. The schedule falls apart. Life refuses to follow the neat little line we drew through it.
And because it didn’t happen according to plan, we’re tempted to call it a failure.
But perhaps we’re measuring it against the wrong thing.
A day can go sideways and still give us laughter. A passage can be difficult and still take us somewhere worth going. A life can look nothing like the one we imagined and still become a damn good life.
There is the life we plan.
And then there is the life that happens between the plans.
This week, we’re going to spend some time there.
