“Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.”
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
After enough miles at sea, a man begins to understand something surprising.
The ocean changes you…
but not in the way most people think.
It isn’t simply the anchorages.
Or the sunsets.
Or the distant shores.
Beautiful as those things are, eventually you realize two people can stand on the exact same deck, beneath the exact same sky, and experience entirely different worlds.
Because what we see outside ourselves is deeply tied to what we carry within.
Some people cross oceans and never truly arrive anywhere.
Others find meaning in a quiet sunrise, a steady breeze, or the sound of water moving softly along the hull at night.
The difference is not the voyage.
It is awareness.
Gratitude.
Presence.
Maybe that is part of what this week has really been about.
Not escaping life…
but learning to see it more clearly.
To slow down enough to notice beauty already surrounding us.
To realize that peace is not always found in reaching some distant shore.
Sometimes it is found in the way we travel.
A life well-lived may simply be learning how to carry wonder with us wherever the current leads.
