One of my favorite memories from the farm was building fences with a horse that never really “worked” beside me.
He wasn’t pulling posts or hauling lumber.
He just stayed there with me.
Quiet.
Patient.
Present.
As strange as it may sound, there was comfort in that kind of companionship. No performance. No conversation. No need to impress one another.
Just two living beings sharing the rhythm of the morning.
I think nature teaches us things we rarely learn in modern life:
how to slow down,
how to pay attention,
how to simply be where we are.
Maybe that’s part of what Sundays are really for.
Not escape.
Not distraction.
Just a little time to reconnect with ourselves,
each other,
and the world we too often move through too quickly.
