Thoughts for the Mid Watch #7 The older I get, the less impressed I am by people who always have an answer. The sea cured me of that years ago. Out here, confidence is useful. Arrogance is dangerous. Weather changes. Currents shift. Charts lie. Forecasts miss. Equipment fails. And sometimes the smartest thing a captain can say is: “I need to reconsider.” Strange how much suffering in life comes from people defending positions long after reality has changed around them. A life well-lived probably requires the courage to adjust course without feeling ashamed for doing so.
