Good morning. One of the lessons the sea taught me is that direction matters more than speed. I've seen boats moving quickly in the wrong direction. I've seen boats making slow, steady progress toward exactly where they intended to go. Life seems to work much the same way. We spend a lot of time talking about goals, plans, and ambitions. But we spend far less time asking a simple question: "What am I paying attention to?" Because attention is a funny thing. Where it goes, energy follows. And where energy goes, our lives tend to follow. Pay attention to problems all day, and life starts to look like a collection of problems. Pay attention to outrage, and the world begins to feel angry. Pay attention to what matters, and somehow more of what matters begins to appear. I'm not suggesting we ignore reality. Quite the opposite. I'm suggesting that attention is one of the most powerful choices we make every day. A sailor checks his compass from time to time. Not because he doubts his destination. But because he understands how easy it is to drift. Might be worth checking your heading this morning. Have a good Monday, my friends. #LifeWellLived #Attention #MondayMorning #SimpleThings
