Today is Easter Sunday. The day everything changed.
Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene and the holy women went to the tomb carrying spices to anoint the body of Jesus. They were anxious about the large stone that had been rolled across the entrance. When they arrived they found it already moved aside.
Inside the tomb sat an angel in white. He said to them: "Do not be afraid. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified. He has been raised. He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. Go and tell His disciples." (Mark 16:6)
They ran from the tomb frightened and filled with joy. Mary Magdalene went to Peter and John and told them: "They have taken the Lord from the tomb and we do not know where they put Him." (John 20:2)
Peter and John ran to the tomb. John arrived first but did not enter. Peter went inside and saw the burial cloths lying on the ground and the cloth that had covered His face rolled up separately in another place. They saw and began to believe.
Jesus then appeared to Mary Magdalene in the garden. She did not recognise Him at first, thinking He was the gardener. He said one word: "Mary." She turned and said: "Rabboni." Teacher.
He then appeared to Peter. Then to the Twelve. Then to more than five hundred people at one time. (1 Corinthians 15:5-6)
The stone was sealed. The guards were posted. The tomb was watched. None of it mattered.
He is risen!
