"Archetype" by Fear Factory was one of the band's biggest hits, but it was a result of in-band conflict, and one that eventually went down the drain, in particularly when it comes to being able to make more copies. Around the time "Digimortal" was recorded and the master for "Concrete" was obtained by Roadrunner Records, there was a huge conflict between vocalist Burton C. Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares, which caused tension for the rest of the band. As a result, Dino was either fired or left on his own, I don't remember. Then bassist Byron Stroud joined, and bassist Christian Olde Wolbers took over for guitar. The band vented frustration about Cazares on this album, "Archetype," which was recorded for a label called Liquid 8 Records. When "Archetype" was released in 2004, it got a lot of sales, but then legal issues struck the Liquid 8 label, causing it to sink and collapse in bankruptcy, resulting in the master for this album being almost impossible to buy rights for. As a further result, no more sales on this album were made, and absolutely no vinyl was printed from this album either. The album is still listenable on Pandora Radio, but no one is allowed to "replay" any song from it because of these legal complications. Another interesting part of the story is how Cazares handled being the subject of the album. It was an instance of "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Cazares was seen on YouTube playing guitars to these songs, and wanted to perform them live later on when he rejoined the band (although Burton C. Bell was very against it due to making amends and not wanting to start new fires). While "Archetype" ran out of print way too quickly, and also while the album was not legally available digitally, it became a legendary collector's item for fans, and lots of YouTube uploads of this album appeared throughout that platform, making fans want the used copies even more, probably to add to their iPhones or Android phones.
