Spent the morning chasing a 409 ghost. The "People You May Know" panel kept offering "Add Friend" buttons for accounts that have been friends for weeks 👻
Fix wasn't in the API — the backend was already returning every user's friendship status correctly. The UI just wasn't reading the field. Stale browser cache then resurfaced old suggestions on top.
Lesson: when the server tells you something, build the client to actually believe it 🛡️
